Cupcakes for breakfast

Cupcakes for breakfast.  Mainly because I can.  There is no one else here. All the kids are gone for a super long weekend. Whatever will J and I do with it just being the two of us until Tuesday?.....I am thinking.....better yet, what do I do?  Its Saturday and he is working and Monday he will be working.....ahh the joys of owning your own business.  This is how it came to be that I ate a cupcake for breakfast.  Someone has to eat them!  I have not even made it out of bed yet.  I have no agenda, the house is clean......somewhat....Yep its just me and the dog.

Of course I should so not have ate that big fat cupcake because tonight we are going to a super delicious Cocktail party.  J likes saying that word.  eh hem.......  Any way I have to squeeze my cupcake eating body into this dress.  Its a really cute ballet style dress my friend Ky let me borrow.  It really is beautiful, even if I am not convinced it is my style.  Of course Jeans are always more my style, but I think it will look good with my strappy shoes that I absolutely dread walking in and my jeweled headband.  Like this:

Nope thats not me.
I just have to find that damn thing.  I think I know what box it is in, just need to go look.  Oh and give myself a mani/pedi and do some eyebrows.  I also have some ironing for J because he has to dress up too which he is none to thrilled about because its hot, but he does assure me he cleans up well.  We shall see.  Seriously why am I in bed again....I have stuff to do ! Promise to put pics up soon!

Take a trip with me................

out my front door

across the yard

to the shed

peek inside

Do you see what I see?

My children reading

This is one amazing sight to see on a Summer morning and it has been a sight I have seen often this week.  J was the first to discover them.  It all began after we cleaned out the shed.  We had found a big box of books and they were stoked to dive in.  R is technically my biggest reader, K is just beginning but I think she is really getting the hang of it, and H is diving in simply because he is seeing the others do so.  He has found some great books and been reading so fast just so he can tell me about them.  I am so proud.

Today we are having a kickoff party for our Summer Reading Program.  We have about 7 kids reading along and they are all working for points.  We have weekly, monthly, and summer goals.  Each week everyone who meets their goal gets to do something special such as a smore's party or picnic at the creek with water balloons.  The big goal is at the end of the summer to take everyone in the big camper somewhere and spend a few days camping out.  We also are looking into a water park.

This is what I have been doing today to prepare for the kickoff party......

Can't you just smell them? The whole house was sleeping at this point.

I took this bowl to K's room and woke her up.........she sat up immediately with a big smile and licked the spoon!  What a way to wake up.  Personally the batter is my favorite part.  Everytime I am making a cake or cupcakes I remember a story my dad told me.  My great uncle used to pay my great aunt 10cents  for the batter every time she made a cake.  I love that story.

Well without further adieu here is how the cupcakes turned out.

I am not a perfectionist but I believe they turned out pretty cute!

Thursday Thunks, Thursday 13

Thursday 13........How about 13 random photos and comments from the first week of summer break.

1. Summer has officially started.

So far I know these things
  • its hot, really hot already
  • Laundry has doubled....not tripled
  • dishes have doubled
  • the house is a mess
  • I am already breaking up fist fights
  • K is already whining because there is no one to play with
  • I need a nap

2. The pools have been nice.  There are a couple around at different friends and neighbors and its been great being at them.

3. Baseball season is almost over and I am so freaking happy.
4.  I think Miley is enjoying everyone being around!

5.  I would really like to go fishing some more, we went last weekend but no bites

except for this one of J's

6.  I already have my mind reeling about anti boredom strategies.......any suggestions?
and how do they get bored so fast?

7. We are starting a book reading program this summer.  There is a bout 7 kids doing it and tommorrow is the kick off.  I am making ocean cupcakes.  Stick around I will show pics.....well depending if mine turn out as good as the picture.

8. Bikes were the best investment so far for kids......well except Kendal.  The boys take off with all the other neighborhood kids and they have pretty much been gone everyday.  I remember doing that as a kid too!

9.  I really hate that bathing suit season is here and I am so not prepared.  Ugh.

10. This week I feel somewhat productive.  I cleaned out the shed and my closet....so I managed to take about 6 bags and boxes to the Salvation Army, but they would not take toys and stuff so not sure what to do with all that.

11.  I attempted to make jello squares.  FAIL.  I think you are supposed to grease the ice cube tray.  They ended up using straws........

I am thinking I should have made myself a set....only with Rum.

12. I am looking forward to a long relaxing weekend.  No kids ....they are all at the other parents houses, and it will just be J and I.  We are going to a party Sat. night but other than that no plans.  I would like to find some sun....and some water......and some alcohol.

13.  I wish I could nap like this....

Welcome to May 27th Thursday Thunks

1. Tomorrow you'll be thinking to yourself? Why did I not get more laundry finished?

2. Where's your picket fence? I am still looking but hope I have found it

3. With a big smile on your face, you do what? watch the finale of American Idol.....I love Joe Cocker

4. If I was to walk up to you, you'd do what? Well since I do not know you, I would probably smile and keep walking

5. The list goes on and on. What list? The list man...you know the list of life things to do......the list!

6. Does every rose have a thorn or does every thorn have a rose? Every rose has a thorn, just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song...

7. Talk dirty to me. What kind of mop/vacuum/dust thingymabob do you use? I am a swiffer girl

8. Your Mamma don't dance for sure, but she also does not have alot to say to me and that suits me just fine and your Daddy don't rock n roll.......he kinda tumbles in the tumbleweeds

No wonder he laughed at me......

I am following along today with

Welcome.  Today's post should give you a pretty good idea of what its like around here.

I went to go butter my toast this morning and realized that we had used the butter to grease K's leg in the bike ordeal............ok, I  can just use jelly BUT I need to go grocery shopping.

Thats not why I got laughed at though.  This is why:

Last weekend I went to the store to buy a slip n slide.  It was hot, the kids were bored, and we had a lazy weekend.  So off I went to the store.  I came home with some water guns and slide.  The kids had fun and even though the cheap ass thing tore up it completely entertained my kids for HOURS.  I am fine with spending 9$ to entertain 3 kids for a day.  Well worth it I say and I got some great pics.

Great Right?
So this past weekend I figured out why J was kinda snickering under his breath and saying "thats not how we slide in the south"..........I usually ignore comments like this because somehow or other it always feels like he is making fun of me.  I hear this almost daily.  'This is LA baby!" That would be Lower Alabama...........oh give me a break!  Well now I know why he was amused at my "little slide"

This past weekend we went to a birthday party at J's brother's house.  It was a slip n slide party.  Cool I thought.  Well here is the slip n slide.

Now what kid in their right mind would want to slide on my slip n slide after they had a experienced this? I see I have a lot to learn.  People this involves a serious size tarp, a large hill, a sprinkler, and dish washing soap.  I swear I am going to take my turn on here.  This summer I declare a parents slip n slide day.
I almost went down.  In all my awwwwwing of this AWESOME slide, I got too close, I was helping them straighten the slide when.....BAM ......R about took me out!

Thanks for the help T.......although she was in heels and laughing so hard .......but she still saved me from completely embarrassing myself in front of J's entire family.  Good thing he got the shot though.  I think he was hoping for me flying down the slide.
I digress.   J wins on this.  His slide is so much better than mine.
